Former Inter and AC Milan midfielder and Parma coach Nevio Scala believes that Inter’s place at the top of the Serie A table is a fair reflection of their performances so far this season.

Speaking to Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, the 74-year-old hailed the impact made by Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi and stated that their brand of football has made them the top team in Italy.

The Nerazzurri had to wait until the last few rounds of the first half of the season to take their place at the summit of Serie A, falling seven points back from AC Milan and Napoli until as recently as November.

However, a period of perfect form coupled with stumbles by their rivals has seen Inter surge to four points clear at the top of the table, earning the status of “winter champions.”

Scala feels that this is nothing more than the team deserve for how they’ve played.

“I think the table is an accurate reflection,” he said. “If Inter are in the lead, it is deserved.”

He went on that “They started a bit off the pace, but then Inzaghi did a great job and they came back from many points back.”

Scala added that “Of course, Inter have what it takes to keep their place at the top.”
