Legendary former AC Milan coach Fabio Capello feels that Inter were always favourites to win the Scudetto even after their difficult summer.

Speaking to Rome-based newspaper Il Messaggero in an interview published in today’s print edition, the legendary former coach stated that he had always predicted the Nerazzurri to go all the way despite the losses of Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku.

Inter had a summer of upheaval after their Scudetto win last campaign, seeing Antonio Conte leave at the beginning of the transfer window before Achraf Hakimi followed the coach out the exit door.

The sale of Romelu Lukaku further dented the team’s momentum and led many to suggest that they could struggle to defend their Scudetto crown.

However, in the view of Capello, the Nerazzurri were always strong enough due to their existing squad and the additions they made, and their form this season does not come as a surprise.

“In August, when everyone was talking about how Inter’s level would drop following the departures of Conte, Lukaku and Hakimi, I had named the Nerazzurri as the favourites for the Scudetto,” he stated. “And now I am being proved right.”
