Inter are hoping to extend the contract of captain Samir Handanovic past next summer when it currently expires.

This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, who report that the Nerazzurri are aiming to keep the Slovenian on for at least another season even after the arrival of Andre Onana next summer.

Onana has been identified as the long-term successor to Handanovic in goal and is all set to make his move to the club on a free transfer next summer official by signing his contract in the coming weeks.

However, Handanovic could still have a future at the club in some capacity while the Cameroonian keeper settles in, and the club are hoping that he will commit his future beyond next summer.

It remains to be seen if the 37-year-old will be willing to accept this changed role in the team, or if he will prefer to leave at the end of his current contract in search of more regular playing time elsewhere.
