Why Inter Milan Shouldn’t Have Sold Achraf Hakimi & Romelu Lukaku

Inter Milan decided to make some moves during the off-season last summer to update the squad and bring in some much needed cash into the bank.

The club decided to part ways with Lukaku for his professed love for the Chelsea “blues”. The club also decided to sell the young up-and-coming Achraf Hakimi to PSG for a hefty price tag. The combined sum netted from these two gentlemen was a staggering €180 million.

Going into the season, many Inter fans were bewildered by the decision to get rid of two key pieces, but things haven’t been so bad as the season has progressed.

Inter is currently in first place with the rival AC Milan breathing down their neck, one point behind. So was this a good move by Inter?

This move hasn’t deterred the club in the short term, as they have still managed to perform and play some great football.

However, with that said, if we look over the horizon, these moves might be problematic for the club. Although the selling of star players Lukaku and Hakimi was huge, only a third or even less of that profit will be available to the club in pursuit of replacements.

A portion of the Lukaku sale went to Manchester United, which previously housed the powerful striker. Further, other transfer-related costs will eat into the profits, and the club is also looking to cover some of its debt.

This could prove problematic in the coming season for the club if they don’t find suitable and affordable replacements.

The club is currently doing well, but one of the key players in the current lineup, Edin Dzeko (35), isn’t getting any younger.

The Bosnian star’s contract expires in June 2023 and it is unlikely he will stay at Inter past that expiration date. Getting rid of younger talent, Lukaku (28) and Hakimi (22), might prove to be a devastating mistake in the coming seasons, but for now, things are still looking good.

In the meantime, Jackpot City Casino NZ will keep us entertained while carefully following the current series A leaders.

Hopefully, the sales of the two star players won’t interfere with this season, but what happens in the coming season may show that this move was a long-term mistake.
