Legendary former AC Milan midfielder Roberto Donadoni feels that Inter are currently the top team within Serie A and will be difficult for the Rossoneri to get the better of in the Milan derby.
Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, Donadoni gave the view that a win for his former side in the derby would be a big boost in confidence given the current quality of the Nerazzurri.
Inter and Milan head into the derby on the other side of the international break knowing that it is a match that could potentially have huge Scudetto implications, with the Nerazzurri hoping to gain even more ground on their city rivals in the table or at least avoid defeat.
The Rossoneri, meanwhile, come into the match knowing that it will be one of their most difficult for the season, but Donadoni feels that Inter’s level of quality could prove to be an incentive for them to get a morale-boosting win.
“Winning would mean a lot, and not just in terms of the table,” he explained. “Beating the strongest team in the league would increase their self-belief a lot.”
