Legendary former AC Milan head coach Fabio Capello believes that Inter have not only reinforced their current side but also added to the squad for the foreseeable future by signing Robin Gosens.

Speaking to Rome-based newspaper Il Messaggero in an interview published in today’s print edition, the former coach highlighted the long-term significance of the German’s arrival for the Nerazurri.

Gosens was a surprise arrival towards the end of the transfer window, with the Nerazzurri having been in search of depth in the left wing-back position for much of the month.

In the end, after it had been widely reported that the likeliest arrival would be a short-term loan option to back up Ivan Perisic, the Nerazzurri instead brought in a player who will be expected to hold down the position for seasons to come.

Capello believes that this is a move that will benefit the club in both the immediate and more long-term future.

“Inter signed Gosens with a view to the Champions League, but also to future seasons,” he explained. “It’s an investment for the present, but also for the future.”
