Inter striker Lautaro Martinez scored the only goal in the Argentine national team’s 1-0 World Cup qualifying win over Colombia yesterday, and is proud of another top contribution.
The 24-year-old spoke to the press after the match, as reported by FCInterNews, and emphasized how important it was for him to give his best for both club and country.
Martinez had already scored in the Albiceleste’s previous win during this round of qualifiers, and he was once again trusted by coach Lionel Scaloni to lead the line, and once again repaid the coach’s faith with a goal.
The Nerazzurri man was taken off in the 68th minute for Juventus forward Paulo Dybala, and Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will be glad to see that he was given a rest in view of this weekend’s derby clash with AC Milan.
When he was on the pitch, however, Martinez showed once again why he is such an important player for both the Nerazzurri and for the Argentine national team.
“It’s always important when the fans recognize the effort you put in on the pitch,” he said.
“Tonight we created many chances and controlled the tempo of the match,” he went on. “Colombia have great quality players, but we defended very well and then were dangerous in attack.”
He concluded that “I’m happy, I’m so proud of and grateful for all this. I always do my best at Inter and I feel a great responsibility to do the same when I wear the national team shirt.”
