Inter captain Samir Handanovic wants to stay on past next season, but will have to accept a salary cut in order to do so.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, who report that the Nerazzurri are ready to offer the Slovenian a new deal, but only on reduced wages of €1.8-2 million net per season.

Handanovic’s current contract is set to expire at the end of June, but even with long-term successor Andre Onana all set to arrive in the summer, he is still keen to extend his time at the club.

The 37-year-old still feels that he can compete with Onana for the starting spot while the Cameroonian settles in, and the club feel that between his continued performances on the pitch and his influence in the dressing room he would be worth keeping on.

However, Handanovic currently earns a net of €3.2 million per season, and the club are not willing to go much higher than €1.8 million net in any offer to renew.
