Former AC Milan defender Alessandro Costacurta has said that Inter are the favourites to win the Derby della Madonnina on Saturday evening and picked out two important players, according to a report in the Italian print media today.

Speaking during an interview with Il Messaggero, Alessandro Costacurta admitted that he fears a defeat against Inter tomorrow would be decisive for AC Milan’s Scudetto hopes this season and said that Inter are the favourites.

“I fear that this derby will be decisive for Milan. If they lose, they could see their scudetto dreams vanish. Inter? In my opinion, they are in good athletic condition, even if they arrived tired at this game. In this derby, they remain the favourites.”

He was then asked who the decisive players in the match will be and he chose Portuguese forward Rafael Leao, and Inter’s Bosnian striker, Edin Dzeko.

He did say though that other players can be crucial, such as Lautaro Martinez for Inter.

“Who can decide? Leao on the one hand, Dzeko on the other. Even though there are others in both teams. For example, Lautaro Martinez, he may not be playing his best championship but is an excellent striker.”

Alessandro Costacurta made an incredible 458 appearances for AC Milan between 1986 and 2007. He also made 30 appearances for Monza during a loan spell at the beginning of his career.

He played 59 times for the Italian national team as well.
