AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli is proud of the performance that his team put in to produce a comeback 2-1 win over Inter in the derby and get themselves back into the Scudetto race.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN after the match, the coach hailed his team for managing to overturn a deficit with a late push to hand the Nerazzurri their second defeat of the Serie A campaign.

The Rossoneri looked second-best to Inter during much of the first half, going into the half a goal down and perhaps lucky that they hadn’t conceded two or three.

However, in the second half it was a different Milan, and they increasingly unsettled the Nerazzurri, with Pioli urging his team up the pitch and making some attacking substitutions to try and create chances for an equalizer.

Olivier Giroud levelled the score before grabbing a second just a few minutes, completing his brace and bringing the Rossoneri to within a point of their city rivals, albeit with Inter having a game in hand.

“We’re incredibly proud to win a match like this, away to a team as strong as Inter,” Pioli emphasized.

On his team’s chances in the Scudetto race he reflected that “It’s impossible to get past all the obstacles if we don’t believe that we can. ”

“In the first half we made too many mistakes,” he said recalling the performance, “in the second half I needed to add more energy.”

“It’s true that Inter were better in the first half,” he stated, “but I’m proud of my players who showed courage to face up to a superior opponent all over the pitch.”
