Inter wing-back Denzel Dumfries had a very strong evening in yesterday evening’s derby clash with AC Milan despite the 2-1 loss, and showed that he is taking the place of Achraf Hakimi well.

This is borne out in the player ratings for the match across Italian media, with the Dutchman receiving solid grades across the board for another emphatic display on both sides of the ball, as highlighted by L’Interista.

Dumfries didn’t immediately make an impact in an Inter shirt upon arriving from PSV in the summer, but since around the beginning of December he has looked more and more reliable.

The 25-year-old was signed to make up for the gaping hole in the team left by the sale of Achraf Hakimi to Paris Saint-Germain, and his display against the Rossoneri suggested that the team aren’t missing the Moroccan’s contributions.

The Dutchman had a goal disallowed for an offside by Ivan Perisic, while he was a consistent threat with his movement into the box and never stopped running to lock down his side of the pitch.

Even in a match where the Nerazzurri were fell to their second defeat of the season in Serie A and let their city rivals back into the title race, the Gazzetta dello Sport, Tuttosport, and TuttoMercatoWeb all awarded him a solid 6.5/10 grade, while L’Interista and the Corriere dello Sport all went one better with 7/10 scores.
