Legendary former Italy, Parma, and Juventus defender Fabio Cannavaro doesn’t believe that yesterday evening’s derby defeat against AC Milan will do significant damage to Inter.
Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, the World Cup winner gave the view that the Nerazzurri are still an extremely formidable side and won’t be knocked off their game much by the disappointing loss.
Inter had an opportunity to put even more distance between them and their rivals by beating Milan in the derby yesterday, but instead they let the Rossoneri get back into the match and take three points to gain ground on them in the Serie A table.
It was a frustrating ending to the game and means that the Scudetto race looks much closer than it had before kickoff, but the Nerazzurri had nevertheless looked confident and well-organized for much of the encounter.
Cannavaro emphasized that they are still a top side, and that they will not feel too psychologically affected because of the loss.
“I don’t think Inter will feel the pressure too much,” he said. “This team is solid and plays a loose and confident style, with more imagination than in the past.”
“Simone Inzaghi allow them to improvise with their more technical players, and this has given the Nerazzurri confidence,” he added.
“Maybe they’ve conceded a few avoidable goals,” he reflected, “but they are still the strongest team in the league. They are used to winning, and progression in the Champions League has given them even more self-belief.”
