Nike are asking to reduce their sponsorship payment to Inter by €1 million due to the Nerazzurri’s partnership with fashion brand Moncler.
This according to Italian football finance news outlet Calcio e Finanza, who report that Nike feel that the partnership with Moncler violates the terms of their own agreement with Inter, and could withhold part of their sponsorship payments.
Nike’s sponsorship deal with Inter includes a clause which limits the Nerazzurri from entering into other clothing and shoes partnerships, but which makes an exception for formal wear.
The club feel that they are covered by this exemption in their agreement with Moncler, whilst Nike consider it to be a violation of their sponsorship contract with Inter and want to reduce their payment by €1 million.
The fashion brand could withhold the amount from their payment of the sponsorship payment or seek some other way to remedy the situation, although the Nerazzurri for their part feel that there is no violation of the contract in the first place.
