Inter’s defense has not looked at its best since the return from the winter break, notably dropping off from the run-in to the holidays when they had kept six clean sheets in a row.
This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who highlight how the sense of relative defensive vulnerability could become a problem for the Nerazzurri.
Inter fought back to salvage a draw against Napoli in Saturday’s massive head-to-head clash, but the fact that they had fallen behind was in itself a worry.
The Nerazzurri have faced five Serie A matches since the return from the winter break, keeping a clean sheet only in their goalless draw away to Atalanta.
Meanwhile, they have also conceded two goals against Empoli in the Coppa Italia and one against Juventus in the Supercoppa Italiana, though they did keep Roma from getting on the scoresheet in the cup.
Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will have to be looking at the fact that his team are not keeping clean sheets at the rate they were a couple months ago, and aim to get them back to their former level defensively.
