Inter coach Simone Inzaghi heads into a Champions League round of sixteen tie where his team will be seen as underdogs as the Nerazzurri get set to face Liverpool.

As Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport highlight, however, this is not the first time that the coach has been in a situation of this nature, having also faced a similar set of circumstances with Lazio last season.

Last campaign, Inzaghi enjoyed one of the high water marks of his impressive time in charge of the Biancocelesti, guiding the capital club to the knockout rounds of Europe’s top competition.

However, they were immediately met with one of the favourites to win the entire competition in the form of Bayern Munich.

In the end, a 4-1 loss in Rome followed by a 2-1 loss in the away leg meant that Inzaghi’s Lazio were well-beaten in the tie, and the coach will have to figure out a way to avoid this fate this time around.

The coach has the added experience and maturity from his first ever campaign in the Champions League last season, and will understand fully the importance of not conceding straightforward opportunities by giving the ball away.

With a Nerazzurri side who are Italian champions, the coach will have another chance to face Europe’s elite in a knockout tie, and will hope that he can prove that he’s learned from the last time around.
