Ex-Inter Defender Daniele Adani: “Edin Dzeko & Lautaro Martinez Didn’t Make The Most Of Their Chances Against Liverpool”

Former Inter defender Daniele Adani feels that the Nerazzurri’s strikers did not do enough to finish their chances in Wednesday’s Champions League loss to Liverpool.

Speaking on Christian Vieri’s Twitch channel, as reported by FCInter1908, the former defender highlighted a lack of killer instinct in front of goal as the primary reason for the Nerazzurri’s disappointing defeat.

Inter and Liverpool both had positive spells during Wednesday’s match, with the Nerazzurri particularly enjoying the period immediately after the restart.

However, the Nerazzurri failed to register a shot on target as Edin Dzeko and Lautaro Martinez failed to take advantage of any of the promising positions their teammates put them in up against Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate.

For Adani, it was this lack of clinical finishing that was the difference between the two sides as the Reds take a crucial 2-0 advantage in the tie back to Anfield for the second leg.

“Calhanoglu hit the crossbar and Liverpool scored two goals,” he said, “that’s the story of the match. Inter forwards did not take advantage of the chances that were created, the potential opportunities remained unrealized.”

He added that “For players of this caliber, there was every opportunity to capitalize. Dzeko and Lautaro lost duels with Liverpool defenders.”

“Alisson has made zero saves, this already sums up Inter’s threat level apart from the crossbar,” he continued.

“Mane, Salah and Diogo Jota, however, barely got anything at goal, apart from Salah’s deflected shot,” he added. “A match this balanced can mean that the team that deserves to win doesn’t always.”
