Inter have suffered a defensive drop-off in recent matches in Serie A, conceding six goals across their last four matches against the likes of Venezia, AC Milan, Napoli, and Sassuolo.

As Italian football statistics account Paollottole Di Calcio highlighted in a tweet, these six goals came from just fifteen shots on target in total, the worst ratio for any top side in a major European league.

The Nerazzurri have not necessarily suffered from a barrage of shots in their recent matches, but opponents have managed to regularly find the back of the net when they have broken through.

Conceding at a rate of two goals for every five shots on target, the Nerazzurri have a worse ratio than any of the top four teams in any of Europe’s top leagues.

When opponents have managed to get in a shooting position it has often been from very dangerous counterattacking positions, while captain Samir Handanovic has not always done enough to keep efforts on goal out.

This, combined with a bit of skill and luck on the part of opposition attackers has meant that the Nerazzurri have conceded an alarming number of goals considering that they still aren’t conceding many shots on target.
