Italian journalist Alessandro Barbano feels that Inter striker Lautaro Martinez is now in a long-term spell of bad form, which goes back further than just a few matches.

Writing in his column in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, the journalist gave the view that Martinez has not been playing well for months.

Martinez has not managed to get on the scoresheet in the last several games for Inter, with his misfiring performance in yesterday evening’s Serie A defeat to Sassuolo perhaps the starkest example.

Earlier in the season, the Argentine had found a rhythm in front of goals and been one of the Nerazzurri’s most regular scorers, but now his form looks to be a serious issue.

The buildup of difficult and tiring matches across several competitions in recent weeks could be one explanation for the 24-year-old’s struggles, but according to Barbano his lack of form extends back further than that.

“It’s not just a Champions League hangover,” he writes, “Lautaro has been hard to watch for months now.”
