Inter went through their toughest period of the season in terms of their fixture calendar in January and February, and will hope that they can get a boost from the less difficult matches to come.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the Nerazzurri come out of the first two months of the year bruised but have an opportunity to pick themselves up with a little breathing room.

January brought league fixtures against Lazio and Atalanta and the Supercoppa Italiana against Juventus, while things really ramped up in difficulty this month.

Consecutive head-to-head clashes with title rivals AC Milan and Napoli saw the Nerazzurri experience their first real stumble of the campaign, and their problems deepened with losses to Liverpool in the Champions League and then Sassuolo in Serie A.

Now, in terms of the league at least, Inter can enjoy a bit of respite, at least on paper, with their next two matches against the bottom sides in the table, Genoa and Salernitana.

After that, there is still formidable opposition on the way including Torino, Fiorentina, and Roma, while of course no match is ever completely straightforward in Serie A.

However, the only match against a team also in the top five of the league comes in their away clash with Juventus in April, and otherwise the Nerazzurri have all their head-to-head clashes behind them.
