Inter have suffered a significant drop-off defensively since the beginning of January 2022, and this has been at the heart of their overall decline in form.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who note that the Nerazzurri are now conceding a goal per game since the return from the winter break and that this has become a significant issue for them.

Inter’s formidable attack has been a key to their success throughout the season, but the best run of form that the team had also came on the back of a very impressive defensive record.

Over the last six Serie A matches headed into the winter break, the Nerazzurri did not concede a single goal as they won all six.

Meanwhile, since the beginning of 2022, the Nerazzurri have kept just two clean sheets in ten matches across all competitions, and have seen their goals conceded per game average jump from 0.8 to 1.2

Inter must work tirelessly to identify the root of these defensive issues and get back to the solidity that they showed down the stretch in December if they want to look like the best version of themselves in the run-in across all competitions.
