Former Inter and AC Milan coach Alberto Zaccheroni believes that the Nerazzurri’s form in recent weeks has partly been down to a lack of enthusiasm from the players.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Radio 24, the former coach highlighted how with the players looking a bit tired and demoralized, the system has faltered due to its reliance on the individual invention from the players.

The Nerazzurri have relied on the form and decision-making of a number of players to get the best out of their entire team this season, with players having the license to move around the pitch in search of the areas where they can impact the game the most.

When the whole team has been in form, the sense of morale has been infectious and allowed the players to find a rhythm together, but in recent matches the players have looked less able to impose themselves on matches and the team as a whole has appeared sluggish.

“”Simone has freed the players from occupying very specific spaces,” Zaccheroni said. “Now Inter have dipped in form, play with less enthusiasm and also gives more space to the opponents, because now they push both wing-backs forward at the same time.”

ANd on tomorrow’s Coppa Italia semi-final clash between Inter and AC Milan, he said that “Current form affects the fluidity of the game. I don’t expect a brilliant game either from Milan or from Inter, but they will battle it out.”
