Italian journalist Michele Plastino believes that Inter cannot make Lautaro Martinez the focal point of their attack.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, Plastino emphasized that the Argentine looks to be struggling with his responsibilities in attack for the Nerazzurriand questioned whether he can be the main striker for the team.

Martinez endured another frustrating evening in yesterday evening’s Coppa Italia semi-final first leg against AC Milan, not seeing much of the ball and having very little influence when he did manage to get into the game.

The 24-year-old has not been in good form in front of goal, scoring only once, from the penalty spot, over the past two months.

Martinez remains an important player to the Nerazzurri on paper, but in practice the striker has not really been able to live up to the responsibilities that he has been given to lead the line and be a major source of goals.

“To be honest, I don’t think he is the player around whom the style of play of a great team can be built” he said, “he’s a secondary striker and Inter cannot be built around him.”

“The club needs to bring in a new Dzeko with the Argentine remaining, but a great team cannot be built around him,” he added.

He said that “We need a young player with good prospects, including physical ones, so the ideal fit would be Scamacca, but the Nerazzurri are not the only club interested in him.”
