Legendary former Inter midfielder Esteban Cambiasso feels that Inter’s performance away to Liverpool yesterday evening in the Champions League showed that they can be comfortable against any opponent.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, the treble-winner hailed the Nerazzurri’s performance to win on the night and hand the Reds their first defeat at Anfield in over a year.

Inter had put in an encouraging performance in the first leg of their two-legged round of sixteen tie against Liverpool, and could consider themselves unfortunate to have lost 2-0.

Repeating a performance at the same level in the second leg was always going to be difficult, however, with Anfield one of Europe’s most intimidating away grounds for any team.

However, against one of the continent’s most formidable sides, the Nerazzurri came away winners on the night, and this can only improve their confidence as they head into more important matches for the season.

“Inter were called on to put in two top performances against one of the favourites for the competition,” Cambiasso said. “The performances did them justice.”

“In the end the details and the quality were decisive,” he added. “But the squad proved that they could do it across both matches. Going to Anfield and going for it, as Inter did, means that they can do it anywhere.”
