Inter Primavera midfielder Mattia Sangalli is confident that the team can battle for top spot in the league after securing a fourth win in five games.
Christian Chivu’s side beat Cagliari 1-0 earlier today to move onto 42 points in the Primavera table and to within six points of leaders Roma, although the Giallorossi have a game in hand.
In an interview with FCInterNews.it, Sangalli felt that the Nerazzurri had hit form at just the right time, particularly with a pivotal clash against Roma coming up next Saturday.
“We certainly want to be at the top, with the aim of playing our game to try to achieve a good result,” the 20-year-old declared.
“After seeing what Roma do tomorrow, we will try to earn the three points to reopen the title race and we want to be in the discussion for first place.”
In addition to the four victories, Chivu’s side have kept a clean sheet in all four games and Sangalli felt that a draw against Atalanta and the subsequent defeat to Fiorentina in mid-February had seen a shift in mindset.
“Probably after the draw in Bergamo and the defeat in Florence, we talked to each other and we agreed that the defensive phase is the most important aspect of the game,” he added.
“I’m enjoying my time in the Primavera as I have always done every year at Inter, and I will try to do my best, as in the last two months, to help the team,” Sangalli concluded.
The midfielder is yet to make his debut for the first team, but featured three times on the substitute’s bench in Serie A and once in the Champions League this term for Inter.
