Legendary former Nerazzurri defender Beppe Bergomi feels that this was a decisive weekend at the top of Serie A because of how Inter and Napoli reacted differently to similar matches.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, Bergomi noted how Inter and Napoli faced stylistically similar opposition, but the Partenopei got the job done for three points whilst the Nerazzurri were only able to scrape a draw.
Inter and Napoli will have seen Torino and Verona as teams who could give them a very even match despite the two sides’ table positions in midtable.
Both the Granata and the Gialloblu play an intense, organized man-to-man pressing approach that allows them to impose their preferred tempo even on teams with superior technical quality to them if there is any lack of precision for them to exploit.
The Partenopei had to struggle at times in their match against Verona, but in the end showed their quality to win 2-1, whilst the Nerazzurri suffered a damaging draw which could have been an even worse result.
“Verona and Torino are similar teams,” Bergomi pointed out, “but Napoli managed to win, while Inter did not.”
