Inter striker Lautaro Martinez is remaining in Milan after testing positive for COVID-19.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the Argentine will not join up with his national team and could return to training as early as Saturday.

Martinez’s positive test for COVID was confirmed yesterday by the Argentine national team, who announced that he would not be included in the squad for their World Cup qualifiers during the international break.

The 24-year-old will undergo a mandatory seven-day period of self-isolation, but when this is over he will return to training.

So far, Martinez has shown no symptoms and the team will be hoping that he is able to quickly get back to training.

Coach Simone Inzaghi has already began preparations for the clash with Juventus on the other side of the break, having moved the schedule forward given the importance of the match in the context of the team’s season.

The coach has eleven players from his squad currently absent from training as they are one international duty, but the likes of Marcelo Brozovic and Stefan de Vrij are on the way to recovery, and he will be pleased to be able to work with Martinez and ensure that the Argentine avoids injury.
