Inter are prioritizing a backup to Marcelo Brozovic and players with pace on the counterattack as they head into the summer transfer window.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper La Repubblica, who report that the Nerazzurri are beginning to plot their moves in the transfer window based around what they have lacked this season.

Inter began the season with six players capable of playing in a box-to-box mezzala role, but only one player who can truly shine in the deeper role directing play in front of the defense, Brozovic.

In the matches where the Nerazzurri have been without the Croat, they have invariably struggled without his influence, and a like-for-like player to deputize for him in the squad has become a priority for the club.

Meanwhile, the departures of the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi has meant that the Nerazzurri have not had the same cutting edge on the counterattack that they did twelve months ago.

Denzel Dumfries has replaced some of what Hakimi offered on the right, whilst Joaquin Correa is not without speed, but this has not been enough.

Accordingly, La Repubblica suggests that the team will be hoping to bring in a player with the pace and decisiveness to make the best out of situations on the break.
