Inter and AC Milan increasingly see building their new stadium in Sesto San Giovanni as their main alternative to building it in the San Siro area.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the delays in their plans for the San Siro area are forcing the clubs to become more serious about having a backup plan and that the Sesto San Giovanni area is at the forefront.

So far there have been no direct contacts between the club directors and the Mayor of the Sesto San Giovanni area, but the clubs are considering the possibility.

All parties want to avoid the possibility of the club moving from the San Siro to an entirely new area and potentially leaving the existing stadium standing and empty.

However, as the delays drag on with respect to the clubs’ plans to demolish the San Siro to make way for a new stadium, they are firming up their backup option in Sesto San Giovanni.
