Inter have made strengthening the quality of options in their midfield a priority ahead of the summer transfer window.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who report that the Nerazzurri are targeting players who can give them central quality from the bench and rotation options.

Inter’s starting midfield trio has generally done the job necessary this season, but they have not necessarily been able to rely on significant contributions from backup options Arturo Vidal, Matias Vecino, and Roberto Gagliardini.

The trio have scored just four goals between them, and have not looked convincing in the formation favoured by coach Simone Inzaghi.

Looking ahead to next season, the club are already thinking about how they can reinforce the position with players who will not look out of place when called upon, and can perhaps even contribute at such a level as to compete for starting spots.
