Former Lazio and Torino goalkeeper Luca Marchegiani feels that Inter were up to the standard that they needed to be in yesterday’s 1-0 win over Juventus.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, Marchegiani gave the view that the Nerazzurri rose to the occasion in a match that they needed to give absolutely everything to try and win.

The Nerazzurri were not at their fluid attacking best against the Bianconeri, barely registering a shot on target as it was their opponents who forced the issue much more in attack with a high-tempo physical pressing approach.

However, they did show the kind of defensive solidity that has occasionally been missing this campaign in order to ensure that the home side could not find a way through no matter how hard they pushed.

Marchegiani was impressed by what he saw from Inter, and didn’t feel at all disappointed with their display given the circumstances and the importance of the match.

“It was a vital match, and they didn’t disappoint me after going ahead,” he said. “They suffered before that, it wasn’t brilliant but he didn’t risk conceding much.”
