Inter captain Samir Handanovic feels that the team showed their character and deserved their 1-0 win against Juventus this evening even if it didn’t come in the most impressive style.

Speaking to InterTV after the match, the 37-year-old emphasized that the three points are the most important thing from the clash, and that the team had to show all their resilience to earn the vital result.

Inter kept a clean sheet, but it was not for lack of attacking intent by Juventus, the the Bianconeri having pushed high up from the start to try and force mistakes and get into dangerous positions.

The Nerazzurri, by contrast, did not create anywhere near the volume of chances that they have become used to in most of their game, taking just five shots through the ninety minutes.

However, Inter scored with their one telling opportunity, Hakan Calhanoglu’s retaken penalty at the end of the first half, and the entire team defended resolutely to ensure than the Bianconeri could not find a way through for all their attacking momentum.

“It was a victory with character, and that was what we needed,” Handanovic reflected, “today it was important to win, it’s not always essential to play well. We’ll enjoy this victory and we also enjoy the way we won tonight.”

“It’s a wonderful feeling,” he continued, “this was a much-needed win, it was the right match and it was decisive for the rest of the season.”

“It was a great victory and we can’t wait to play our next matches,” he added.
