Inter Vice-President Javier Zanetti is happy with the role that he’s found for himself at the club in guiding them to success on and off the pitch.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera in an interview published in the L’Economia supplement for today’s print edition, Zanetti outlined his approach to bringing the team forward into success.

Zanetti is continuing his journey with Inter after having been one of their all-time great players and captains during his nearly one thousand appearances in a Nerazzurri shirt.

He has come back and performs an important role behind the scenes along with the owners and the other directors to give the club a sense of stability and identity.

The Argentine is proud that he has found a way to keep being at the heart of the team and that this has coincided with a period of success on the pitch.

“This is how I want to win,” he said, “winning for me means making the club grow in economic and social terms, and then investing in the sporting side of things.”

“I’m working on developing the brand,” he went on, “with a focus on international relations. In recent years I’ve realized that to win on the pitch you have to build a team of strong directors off the pitch as well.”

“And it’s not just about skill,” he added, “but also about values and mentality.”

Zanetti went on that “Inter is a family for me and, to perform my new role in the best way possible, I had to prepare myself adequately.”

“So I decided to undertake a course at SDA Bocconi, enrolling in the Executive Coaching and Sports Management program, with the aim of broadening my football vision and contributing to the good of the club.”

“There I found a great opportunity,” he explained, “seeing football from another perspective. Today the key phrase for me is ‘creating alliances,’ which can open up opportunities for Inter to grow.”
