Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi is pleased with another excellent display by Ivan Perisic to help the team to three more important points against Hellas Verona earlier this evening.

Speaking in a press conference, as reported by FCInterNews, the coach praised the contribution that has been made by the 33-year-old throughout the season and gave his immediate reaction to the 2-0 Serie A win.

Perisic notched two assists to help the Nerazzurri to a controlled victory over Verona, first assisting Nicolo Barella and then Edin Dzeko.

The Croat also showed his versatility by moving from wingback to second striker midway through the second half, while his immense workrate was on display both before and after the positional change.

Perisic has been one of Inter’s standout performers throughout the season, and once again they have achieved a vital result in their Scudetto pursuit partly thanks to his immense efforts.

“Perisic is having an extraordinary season and must keep going like this,” Inzaghi said. “We have other situations to solve but the club is thinking about [extending Perisic], we must demonstrate on the pitch that we can be consistent or else face criticisms.”

On the team’s response to their poor form in February and March, the coach said that “I think that we’re more than just back, we won a huge match away on Sunday.”

“And then I think that all the teams at the top have had problems, dropping some points and losing some important players,” he continued.

“I’m happy with the match we played,” he said, “we faced an opponent who along with Lazio, after Inter has the best attack in the league, allowing them very little.”

On the substitution of Nicolo Barella off during the second half, he said that “He was feeling dizzy but it was not anything at the muscular level. De Vrij had pain in his flexor, Correa took a blow to the knee.”

“We’ve been in football for many years,” he said of the team’s mentality, “the results have an influence.”

“This match was not easy but the guys did very well,” he went on. “Playing in a stadium that urged us on, we had a great evening and I’m happy.”

On the preparations for the team’s next match without midweek distractions, he said that “Training is important and we know it.”

“We have a game in hand still, and then we have the second leg of the Coppa Italia which we want to win with all our strength, while the Champions League round of sixteen also gave us some problems,” he explained.

“There was a period where was had injuries, we’ve been without various players,” he added. “Let’s enjoy this important victory knowing that on Friday we have another important match in La Spezia.”

And of the decision to substitute Joaquin Correa off, he said that “He had an excellent first half, I would have left him on the pitch but he took a blow to knee and so I took him off, to avoid another injury.”
