Inter defender Milan Skriniar could find a permanent home in the central position of the team’s back three going forward.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who report that the club are increasingly considering the possibility of moving the Slovak defender from the right of the defense to the middle.

Skriniar initially played in a partnership in a back four when he arrived at Inter from Sampdoria in the summer of 2017, first alongside Miranda and then alongside Stefan de Vrij as his main partner.

However, the arrival of Antonio Conte heralded a total change in the defensive system, with the team using three defenders at the back and wingbacks.

Skriniar initially struggled to adapt to Conte’s preferred formation and even found himself in and out of the starting eleven, but by the start of the second campaign under the coach he was an established starter.

The 27-year-old won the Scudetto last season as a key figure in the Nerazzurri’s back three, playing on the right-hand side alongside Stefan de Vrij in the middle and Alessandro Bastoni on the left as the usual trio.

This season, the Slovak has if anything only improved, putting in several standout displays on the right but also being used centrally when de Vrij has been out of the team on some occasions.

Skriniar’s performance in place of de Vrij against Juventus, and then in the second half against Hellas Verona, have been among his best displays of the campaign, and are forcing the club to reconsider if this should be his role in the future.
