Inter have won six of the ten previous matches that they’ve played under the direction of Serie A referee Fabio Maresca ahead of their eleventh match with him in charge, away to Spezia.
This is highlighted by Italian news outlet FCInterNews, who note that the 41-year-old will be in charge of his second Inter match of the season in the Italian top flight.
Maresca had a tempestuous relationship with former Inter coach Antonio Conte, who had shouted “It’s always you, Maresca!” during a 2-2 draw with Parma in which the coach had felt his team were extremely hard done by with some decisions.
This had led to the official being taken off Inter matches to avoid confrontations with Conte, but this season he refereed another Nerazzurri match with Simone Inzaghi having replaced the former coach, taking charge of the 2-2 draw with Atalanta in September.
Inter were not able to get three points on that occasion, but they will be hoping that they can do so against Spezia, and with six out of ten previous matches refereed by Maresca being wins, the precedent may suggest that this is the likeliest outcome.
