Inter wingback Denzel Dumfries is pleased to have helped his team to a 3-1 win over Roma in Serie A by kicking off the scoring during the first half.

Speaking to InterTV after the match, the 26-year-old expressed his happiness at the result and goal, and clarified that if he doesn’t look too happy after he scores it’s because he’s focused on the match and not because of any lack of emotion.

Dumfries has developed a habit of popping up for important goals for the Nerazzurri since joining from Roma during last summer’s transfer window, and he did so against the Giallorossi this evening.

The Dutchman had opened the scoring in a 3-0 win in the reverse fixture, and he gave this match a sense of symmetry by latching onto a through-ball from Hakan Calhanoglu and timing his finish perfectly to find the breakthrough here.

Now, the Nerazzurri have taken three massive points from a match which could very easily have seen them stumble in their title pursuit.

“It was a good victory for Inter,” Dumfries said, “it was also a very positive match for me. The reverse fixture was very important for me, I’m happy to have scored again today but the most important thing was the three points.”

“Calhanoglu is a top player,” he said of the Turk’s excellent assist for him, “then we joked a bit in the locker room about his through-ball for my first goal.”

“Since I arrived I’ve had to observe and learn,” the Dutchman explained, “we work a lot on these kinds of balls, but the most important thing is the victory by the team. We want to win two titles, the Scudetto and the Coppa Italia.”

And of his lack of an obvious reaction when celebrating his goal, Dumfries said that “People often say I don’t smile much, but I smile when needed. In reality I’m just really concentrating.”
