Inter sent a clear message to AC Milan in the Scudetto race with the nature of their 3-1 win over Roma in Serie A yesterday evening.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who argue that not just the result but the performance will have given the Nerazzurri’s city rivals serious pause.

On paper, Roma were the toughest match that Inter had left in their league fixture list, as an anomaly in the schedule has left them with only teams in the bottom of the table after meeting an in-form Giallorossi.

The Nerazzurri handed Roma their first loss in twelve Serie A matches and did so in fairly emphatic style, outplaying Jouse Mourinho’s team in midfield and clinically putting three past them before an hour had passed before seeing out the match.

Now, Inter will have teams in midtable or in the relegation battle on their plate, and while there are no truly easy matches in Serie A they may well feel that maximum points is an achievable target from these five matches.

Meanwhile, the Rossoneri have only teams from the top half of the table in their remaining five matches, starting with this evening’s match away to Lazio.

Inter will do everything they can to keep their recent winning run going, starting with their game in hand against Bologna this week, knowing that if they take maximum points they are guaranteed to win the Scudetto.

Meanwhile, the Rossoneri will be thinking one match at a time and hoping that they can take advantage of any slip-ups that their city rivals may have.

The race remains tight and neither team have a margin for error, but the nature of the opponent and the way in which yesterday evening’s result was achieved by Inter will send a very clear message to Milan as to Inter’s credentials.
