Italian journalist Matteo Marani believes that Inter’s real turning point in the Serie A title race was their 1-0 win over Juventus at the start of the month.
Writing in his column in today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, Marani named the win over the Bianconeri as having been the most decisive match for the momentum of the Nerazzurri’s title pursuit.
Inter have now five matches from five across all competitions since returning from the international break, and in their remaining five Serie A matches they can potentially clinch the Serie A title.
However, in the view of Marani the real key moment if the Nerazzurri can go on and win the title will have been when they beat the Bianconeri in Turin upon returning from the international break.
That match saw Inter dig in and take three points from one of their toughest matches of the entire campaign and emerge with renewed confidence and self-assurance which has been on full display in the matches that they’ve played since.
“It may sound paradoxical,” Marani writes, “but the match that can deliver the Scudetto to Inter is not one that’s in front of us, but already behind is.”
“It was played last April 3,” he explains, “Juve 0-1 Inter. ”
“If yesterday’s success against Roma reaffirmed that Simone Inzaghi’s team is fully recovered, with their fourth win in a row after having taken just seven points from seven matches, and on an upward trajectory, there’s no doubt that the turning point took place a month ago in Turin,” he suggests.
