Former Inter midfielder Borja Valero believes that the team sent the right message in the Serie A title race by beating Udinese earlier this evening.

Speaking to Italian news outlet DAZN after the match, the Spaniard praised the team for their calmness to react to the setback of losing to Bologna during the week.

The Nerazzurri were in control for much of the first half against an in-form Bianconeri side before the conceding of a second-half goal meant that they had to hold their nerve and gut out the win in the closing stages of the match.

Throughout the clash, however, Inter did what they needed to do and put pressure on city rivals AC Milan at the top of the table.

With three matches left to play in Serie A, Valero feels that the Nerazzurri have shown that they are back where they need to be and can push right up until the end.

“You can’t give up now,” he said, “and now the team has sent a positive message. They risked a little, but they made the match their own and could have killed it off in the first half as they had a couple chances.”

He said that it’s been “A wonderful season with two teams fighting closely.”

Valero noted that “Inter were calm before the match, they were joking with each other, and this is also a great sign for the next matches.”

He also noted that “Penalties are a black mark on Lautaro’s season.”
