Former Napoli midfielder Marek Hamsik has said that although Inter did want to sign him, he would never have left Napoli, according to a report in the Italian media today.
Speaking during an interview with Corriere dello Sport, the Trabzonspor midfielder who has just won the first league title of his career spoke about his chances of joining Inter when Walter Mazzarri was in charge.
“I can’t deny it. But I never thought of leaving Napoli, I would never have gone to play in another Italian team. I would not have succeeded. I would not have made it.”
The player remained very loyal to Napoli for the majority of his career despite ample opportunity to move elsewhere and earn more money and win more trophies.
Speaking about the current Serie A title race, the Slovakian feels that Inter still have a good chance of winning the title because of their remaining fixtures.
“The calendar still leaves Inter with some chances. If I were at Milan, I would be careful until the last second.”
Inter’s final three games will be against Empoli, Cagliari and Sampdoria whereas AC Milan will have to face Hellas Veronaaway, Atalanta and Sassuolo. They are certainly tougher games than Inter’s.
