Legendary former Inter midfielder Nicola Berti thinks that the Nerazzurri will prevail in dramatic circumstances against Juventus in the Coppa Italia final this evening as they did in the Supercoppa Italiana.
Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, Berti joked that he expects Nicolo Barella to score the winner in the 119th minute this time around rather than Alexis Sanchez scoring in the 120th minute.
Inter left it until virtually the last possible moment to take the Supercoppa Italiana in January, with Sanchez scoring a dramatic late winner right as it looked inevitable that the match would head to penalties.
The Nerazzurri will be hoping that they can beat the Bianconeri without the need for extra time this time around especially as they must save their energy for the remaining two matches of the Serie A season.
However, Berti thinks there could be more drama and that this time it will be Barella who is the late hero.
Asked if he thought that Juventus could have the edge due to having rested several player in their match against Genoa, Berti joked “But Juve has been resting for a whole season! Of course it is an advantage.”
“They rested for a season, if they’re not favourites here,” he said. “They’ve set up their entire season around winning the Coppa Italia. I’m joking, even if it is true that Inter against Empoli spent more energy.”
“Anyway,” he mused, “we win it in extra time. Sanchez in the 120th minute? No, Barella in the 119th minute.”
