Former Inter, AC Milan, Roma, and Real Madrid Christian Panucci feels that the Nerazzurri have the stronger squad than the Rossoneri, but that the latter have done well to go into the final day of the Serie A season with the advantage at the top.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, Panucci suggested that the Rossoneri’s title push has been an impressive achievement considering the quality of their squad compared to their city rivals.

Neither Inter nor Milan had necessarily been considered obvious title favourites going into the start of the campaign given the summer transfer windows that they had, but the Nerazzurri could still boast a squad full of Scudetto-winners even after some big name departures.

Over the course of the season, as well, Inter’s summer signings have looked up to the task of replacing the players who were sold last summer.

However, it is the Rossoneri who lead going into the final day, even with a group of players which is, on paper, not at the same level as that of the Nerazzurri.

Panucci said that “I hope with all my heart that Milan will be able to get it over the line, an objective that I would consider to be a true masterpiece.”

“A real feat on all levels,” he characterized the possibility of a Scudetto win for the Rossoneri, “the club, the players, the coach and technical staff.”

“Inter have a much more solid and structured squad,” Panucci argued, “Milan deserve great credit for having gotten to where they are.”
