Inter have identified Lazio midfielder Lucas Leiva as a possible alternative to Kristjan Asllani as a backup to Marcelo Brozovic in their squad for next season.
This according to Italian news outlet La Reupbblica, who report that the Nerazzurri could decide to move for the 35-year-old on a free transfer in the event that they are unable to sign Asllani.
A midfielder capable of deputizing for Brozovic is one of Inter’s priorities for the summer transfer window, and in this respect Asllani has been made their top target.
However, it is not certain that the Nerazzurri will be able to convince Empoli on a deal for the Albanian, and in this event they will look to alternative targets.
Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi would be happy to reunited with Leiva, with whom he worked with for four season while in charge of the Biancocelesti, and feels that the Brazilian could be a more than capable deputy for Brozovic in the team.
