Inter will face competition for the signature of Empoli midfielder Kristjan Asllani, with Premier League side Newcastle United showing an interest in the 20-year-old.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who report that the Magpies are keen on the Albanian and will rival the Nerazzurri to sign him during the summer transfer window.

Asllani has been identified as Inter’s top target to back up Marcelo Brozovic in their squad going into next season, a role which they feel will be necessary to fill this summer.

The Nerazzurri are hoping to convince Empoli on a deal for the 20-year-old by offering striker Sebastiano Esposito as part of a deal.

However, things could get more difficult for the Nerazzurri in the event that Newcastle put a big money offer on the table for the Tuscan club, and they could be forced to look at other targets to back up Brozovic.
