Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu has inherited the captain’s armband for the Turkish national team from Burak Yilmaz following the striker’s retirement from international football.

The 28-year-old is leading the Turkish team into the future as they look to pick themselves up from their narrow failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup starting with a 4-0 win over the Faroe Islands in the Nations League.

Calhanoglu posted on his Instagram account to thank Turkey’s fans for their support.

He captioned the post, “We will prove that we don’t belong here. Thanks to our fans who support us unconditionally.”
