Inter Captain Samir Handanovic: “Proud To Have Extended, We Play To Win Titles Here”

Inter captain Samir Handanovic is pleased to have committed his future to the Nerazzurri by signing a one-year contract extension.

Speaking to InterTV after his new deal was officially announced, the 37-year-old gave his thoughts on what the renewal means for him, and also emphasized that he wants to add titles to his trophy cabinet by staying at the Nerazzurri.

Handanovic’s previous contract had run out at the end of last month, but the Slovenian had been widely expected to prolong his stay at the club with a new deal.

Today is the tenth anniversary of Handanovic’s tenure in an Inter shirt, and so the club picked today as the right moment to officially announce the captain’s new contract.

For his part, Handanovic isn’t just focusing on the past on this important anniversary, but believes that there’s still more for him to achieve at Inter.

“It’s nice to relive certain feelings,” he said, “ten years ago I joined a top club and I’m still at a top club.”

“I’m very happy and proud to be and Inter player and to captain this club,” he continued, “it’s a privilege that will continue for me. Playing for Inter means having a great desire to win, history shows us that we play to win titles here.”

“That’s why we’re here, and we also hope that other players who join will also compete to win titles,” he continued.

Handanovic reflected that “I can say that I have grown as a person and a footballer, many things have changed since I’ve arrived – many players, coaches, and owners, but the important thing is that Inter keep improving.”

He concluded that “We’ve improved a lot, and we must do everything to ensure that Inter continue to improve.”
