Inter midfielder Marco Pompetti is happy with the decision to join FC Sudtirol on loan in Serie B for the upcoming season.
Speaking to Sudtirol’s official site, the 22-year-old gave his thoughts on why he expects that the move will be the right fit for him at this stage of his career, and also spoke of his happiness at linking up with Inter Primavera teammate Matteo Rover this campaign.
Pompetti will be playing in Serie B next season, joining the ambitious Sudtirol who are looking to reinforce their squad following a successful promotion to the Italian second division from Serie B last season.
The young midfielder has spent the past few seasons out on loan at a number of different teams, and this season could represent an opportunity for him to make a further push within the senior Italian game with a team who have already proven themselves by being promoted last season.
“I’m happy to have joined such a significant club,” he said. “During last season I closely followed the exploits of this team as they played in the same division I was in, and they won the group fully deservedly, and very emphatically.”
“I am proud to join FC Sudtirol,” he continued, “and I’m hoping to get acquainted with my new teammates right away. On my part, I have the desire to always do the best I possibly can.”
Pompetti also spoke about reuniting with his former teammate Rover, stating that “I’m pleased to reunite with Matteo Rover, someone with whom I played in the Inter Primavera team, winning great results including an Under-19 title and the Torneo di Viareggio trophy.”
“Matteo was a great teammate and a friend off the pitch,” he continued. “We enjoyed many positive moments together and also shared the harder times, and we always faced them with the right attitude.”
“We were school-mates in Milan,” Pompetti said of Rover. “I can’t wait to meet him and embrace him again.”
