Fiorentina are intent on keeping defender Nikola Milenkovic in their squad for next season despite transfer links to Inter and other clubs.

This according to the club’s General Manager Joe Barone, who spoke at the team’s training retreat, as reported by FCInterNews, and explained that the Tuscans’ intention is to talk to the 24-year-old and convince him to stay next season.

Milenkovic has been linked as a transfer target for Inter as a like-for-like replacement for Milan Skriniar should the Slovakian be sold to Paris Saint-Germain, whilst other top clubs in Italy are also monitoring the Serb.

The Serb has one year left to go on his current contract with Fiorentina, and it remains to be seen whether La Viola would be willing to agree a deal for him rather than risk losing him for free next summer.

However, according to Barone, the hope is still to keep hold of Milenkovic, with the General Manager stating that “Nikola’s in his sixth season here, we know he’s a top player. We continue to speak with him, we want to keep hold of him.”
