Inter are aiming to sign Borussia Dortmund defender Manuel Akanji on a free transfer, while the player has no offers for the current summer transfer window.

This according to German news outlet Ruhr Nachrichten, who report that the Nerazzurri have made the Swiss international a target for next summer but would be less interested in signing him for next season.

Akanji’s current contract with Dortmund expires at the end of June 2023, and he has not been handed a new deal by the Schwarzgelben.

The 26-year-old’s club are keen on offloading him this summer as they have several other defenders in the squad and want to sell him for a fee rather than lose him on a free transfer next summer.

However, so far no serious offers have come in for him, despite tentative links to the Nerazzurri as well as Manchester United.

Inter are interested in Akanji, but their plan is to wait until next summer and then see if he is still at Dortmund where they could sign him on a free transfer.
