Legendary former Inter midfielder Gianfranco Bedin feels that former Nerazzurri captain Giacinto Facchetti was an example for the team, not just on the pitch but also in terms of his character.
Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in yesterday’s print edition, Bedin gave his thoughts on the iconic former Inter captain and his teammate of many years on what would have been his birthday.
Bedin was a part of the legendary “Grande Inter” team that won the European Cup as well as several Serie A titles during the 1960s and 70s, a team that was captained and led by Facchetti.
Both are among the great figures of the Nerazzurri’s history, but Facchetti in particular remains one of the club’s most recognizable players past or present.
Bedin recalls the former captain as not just for his incredible contributions on the pitch, but also for his personality and character.
He called Facchetti “An example of moral rectitude, fairness, sportsmanship – qualities that are worth more than any trophy. Really, we had a great time playing together.”
